The services that the staff of the Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic provides for its patients and their owners are those provided by any up to date technologically current practice. We cannot possibly describe everything that is done at the Clinic; so, we will list the general categorizes of services.

Pet Grooming:

A physical examination is the basis of all medical procedures. With a reasonably cooperative patient, a very thorough physical examination can be conducted within a matter of a few minutes. Annual physical examinations are recommended.

Vaccinations are a basic tenet of preventing contagious diseases. Heartworm disease can be easily prevented by the monthly administration of proper medication or by a single injection every six months.

With our equipment we can X-ray pets from the size of new born puppies up to the biggest Great Danes and Newfoundlands. We utilize digital radiography which displays the X-ray within a matter of seconds and the contrast of the radiograph can be changed digitally as necessary without having to re-X-ray the patient and thereby expose the patient to unnecessary radiation. We can then give the client his/her own copy (disc) of the radiograph.

Like x-rays, ultrasound is another non-invasive (non-surgical) way of looking as the internal organs of a patient. Echocardiography (looking at the heart and the movement of the valves within the heart and the blood as it flows through the heart) is accomplished by using the ultrasound equipment.

Using dedicated dental equipment our staff is capable of providing routine dental cleaning and prophylaxis, routine extractions, and extractions requiring high speed drills, burrs, and cutting discs.

The equipment necessary for routine lab work (Blood counts, serology, thyroid tests, adrenal tests, heartworm, etc) is maintained at the Clinic. Specialized lab work is sent to Antech labs and the results are usually available within 1-3 days – depending upon the test requested.

Our Clinic recommends the use of microchips as a method of permanent identification of pets. We use the HomeAgain microchip system. These chips can be read by any universal scanner.

The Elizabethton Veterinary Clinic maintains multiple sterile surgical packs from which we can perform most soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures. Procedures that require the expertise, experience, and equipment of a specialist are referred to the appropriate specialist as necessary.

The laser is a special instrument used for making incisions in soft tissue. The advantages of the laser are minimal surgical bleeding, less post surgical swelling, and much, much less post surgical discomfort. Our staff recommends routine declawing of cats; but, only if done with the laser. The laser really is an amazing advance in the control of post surgical discomfort.

There is no real connection between cold laser therapy (CLT) and the surgical laser except for the use of the word “laser”. CLT is a non-invasive, non-painful, drug free method of stimulating healing of almost any body part although it is mostly used on muscles and joints. The treatment time is short and the results are impressive.
